Acrylic Carpet Sliders, Fall 2017

As a kid, I loved to slide around my cousin's house on the plastic carpet sliders they had. Now that I've grown up, they no longer fit me and even if they did, they are much too flimsy and are a toe injury waiting to happen when I crash into a wall because they are made to be used with just socks. I wanted to be able to use a similar thing again and knew that acrylic slid over carpets well. I had just started at CMU, but took a micro course to gain access to the laser cutters. With this, I was able to laser cut these ellipse shaped carpet sliders that I designed in SolidWorks to have traction that fits my shoe exactly. With them, I can easily slide on carpet in my sneakers and not worry about getting hurt. I used quarter inch acrylic so that they could survive repeated bumps into walls.
