Habitat’s Airlock System, Design I, Team of 4, Fall 2019

For this project, we needed to design a continuously rotating linkage system that would push the button for as long as possible by raising spring loaded plates during the 2 minute test. We had two testing days wherein we could improve upon our design. For the first one, we used the classic  4 bar-linkage design, while we utilized a 6 bar design for the final testing day. The 6 bar design allowed the linkage system to achieve a higher range more easily. We went from 48.2 seconds to 73.3 seconds which put us at among the best in the class. In creating our design, we utilized Grashof's Law and thought a lot about buckling in our members. We machined aluminum for our crank and the two long legs forming the triangle as they were most at risk of bending and buckling.
